State of the Postal Service “Stakeholder Meeting” August 30,2011
The situation: The US Postal Service is at the center of the trillion-dollar mailing industry that employs more than 8 million people and supports over 7 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). So when the Postal Service’s financial situation is at a crisis point, it is not just a problem for the Postal Service. The impact reaches across the entire industry.
There has been a surge in the amount of media coverage on the Postal Service’s financial situation. While there has been some very good reporting, much of what is out there is not based on facts, but on faulty assumptions and a lack of understanding about the environment in which the Postal Service operates.
So what’s really happening? In recent weeks, the Postmaster General and other postal leaders have held discussions with the mailing community inWashingtonDC and elsewhere, with members of Congress and staff, with postal employees, with business customers who use the mail and more. Topics include:
- The urgent financial situation
- Multiple actions to control costs
- Proposed legislative changes
- The future of the mailing industry
Now it’s your turn to get the latest, most accurate information available on the Postal Service and the mailing industry. Please join your (name) Postal Customer Council for this valuable information session with Northland District Manager Tony Williams.
Date: August 30th
Time: 3:30pm Location: USPS Rochester Processing and Distribution Pla

It is important for all of us who have a stake in the Postal Service to clearly understand the current situation, what is being done to address it and what more needs to be done to keep the Postal Service – and the mailing industry it supports – viable long into the future. We hope you’ll be there.
